Fashion During the Harlem Renaissance
Men's Fashion
Fashion during the Harlem Renaissance was very elegant. Black and white men dressed with suits to give a positive statement that they were living their lives. Their suits ranged from several different materials, from linen to wool, each fitting every individuals self interest. Their suits had defined shoulders and narrow hips to make then look more appealing. Leather was also seen quite often since it gave it a sense of durability. Accessories were also added such as bows, and ties. With the suits-also came the shoes, which were very vital in the fashion, Oxford shoes where practicably worn for any type of formal occasion, extending their luxurious looks were ever they went. Hats were also very stylish and they were worn frequently.
Woman's Fashion
Considering the fact that the Harlem Renaissance was the birth of a new culture involving Music and Dance, a woman's attire was molded and made to fit that perfectly. Often women would sew their own clothes adding extra accessories to make them stand out. They would add extra rhinestones and decorations. It was not rare to see several women compliment their clothing with silk gloves or high heeled shoes since it was something that practically resembled them. Clothing was also made to be able to dance in since they were going through a new evolution of dance. Extra accessories ranged, from jewelry to hats.
